Gold Jewelry Care

Jewelry trends come and go, but gold jewelry is here to stay! Be it minimalist or statement style, gold jewelry proves to be the customer favorite every season!

The beauty of gold is that it's very easy in maintenance. Jewelry pieces made of solid yellow (14k, 18k, 22k, or 24k) and rose gold  (14k or 18k) don't lose their color. White gold is a different story, and we'll surely cover white gold care soon too!

Technically, you could wear your gold jewelry 24/7. However, it's not recommended.

First, there's regular wear and tear. It is advised to take your gold rings off whenever you are doing any kind of heavy-duty work with your hands. Depending on how they are used, your rings could scratch, bend, and thin out over time. That is true regardless of what kind of metal they are made of.

Second, frequent use leads to more frequent cleanings. Whenever you wash dishes or apply lotion with your rings on, those pieces get little bits of grime inside the design. And the more intricate or textured the design is, the dirtier the piece can get over time.

Good thing, it's easy to clean gold diamond jewelry. You can do it at home by soaking your jewels for 30 minutes in warm water with a little bit of soap. Once the grime is loosened, gently wipe any impurities with a soft cloth and let the jewelry air dry.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If your ring is highly textured, you can bring it to a jeweler to have it cleaned with a sonic machine or steam. Ideally, you should bring the piece to the place where you purchased it from because the jeweler knows exactly how the piece was made and what kind of maintenance it requires. For example, jewelry with antiqued finish can't be left sitting in a sonic machine for too long as it will deplete the antiqued finish, and the jewelry will lose its original look.

That's why we are always happy when our customers come back to us to have their jewelry cleaned. We know our jewelry intimately, so we can service it the best. If you're in Provincetown, don't hesitate to pop in for a quick jewelry clean up session. It takes anywhere between 5-30 minutes, and we'll do it free of charge if you've purchased it from us!
